How your website can make more money

It’s common to think that website marketing is all about increasing your website traffic or higher rankings in the search engines. Personally I prefer to focus on improving website conversion before spending a lot of time sending traffic to it. That way your results will be dramatically improved when traffic is created.

The sad truth is many business owners believe traffic is everything on the internet. But it’s not their fault… there are enough people promising riches through website traffic. But they don’t tell you that traffic is a waste of time if your website can’t sell.

What your website should really be doing

I believe website marketing means creating a relationship with visitors when they arrive at your website. A big part of this is how you present your business through your website. But more importantly you need to start building a relationship by collecting their contact details.

It’s generally accepted only 1-2% of people will buy when they visit your website. But if you take the time to form a relationship with your visitors that percentage will be a lot higher. It’s similar to the band who has a one-hit wonder versus the band who turns out great albums year after year.

Avoiding the social media buzz

The danger is with all the social media buzz that we lose sight of our aim. We have a lot of good ways to communicate with people around the world… and some bad ones as well. But it’s really all about building a relationship.

It doesn’t matter whether this relationship is built over email, or Twitter, or Facebook, or YouTube… or through mail, fax or phone. No matter what it’s still about the relationship and the value you provide. In my opinion you should be using a wide variety of these media to connect with your prospects and clients.

What is the real objective of your website?

There is no absolute answer… there is no almighty social media property that you should base your business around. That would be like having a store but deciding a phone was too much inconvenience. Most business owners are aware that a phone can be very useful and the same is true for social media.

So my message for you is to focus on the relationship you’re building with your website visitors no matter what media you’re using. By building a valuable relationship with your prospects (and clients) your sales will naturally increase. Because people buy from those they know and trust.

Your action plan

Take a look at your website and decide whether you’re building a relationship or just simply stating what you do. What valuable information are you offering? Are you collecting contact details to send this information with?

Creating a relationship doesn’t have to be difficult… just pretend someone is standing in front of you right now. The results can be amazing.

Because it’s just another way to be unique.
